What Espresso, Milk and Syrup Actually Do to Leather

Espresso and milk wipe straight off a smooth cowhide surface — neither penetrates if you catch it the same day. Syrups are stickier and want a damp cloth rather than a dry one. Citrus is the one to watch: lemon and lime oils sit on the surface and can lighten a spot over time, so wipe those promptly. Nothing in a café will destroy a leather apron; the worst case is a darker patch that becomes part of the patina.

How do I clean a leather barista apron?

Wipe it down at the end of a shift and let it air dry. No machine washing, no soaking, and do not dry it on top of the espresso machine — sustained heat is what makes leather go hard.

Is it too hot to wear next to the steam wand?

Leather is no warmer than a doubled cotton apron and it does not hold moisture, which is the thing that actually makes you uncomfortable through a long shift.

What size should staff order?

Measure chest and the length from collarbone to knee. The straps are fully adjustable, so if someone is between sizes, size up.
